Why rebuild a vanished professional library
The Environment Design Guide occupied a particular niche in Australian practice. It was denser than a magazine and more design-shaped than a standard. Architects, landscape architects and students used note IDs the way engineers use clause numbers: CAS 36, DES 4, TEC 11. When the public site decayed — and when a later WordPress era filled with unrelated affiliate posts — those IDs became harder to teach.
This reconstruction is independent. It is not the Australian Institute of Architects, the Green Building Council of Australia, or a ratings administrator. It exists so that a reading list written in 2012 still resolves, and so that a 2026 studio can see what the profession thought was worth numbering.
Method
We preserve modern slash URLs that match the historical slug spine. We 301 classic /pages/content/{code}--{section} aliases, including .php endings. We rewrite bodies in new words and attribute note IDs, titles, and published author initials. We refuse spam paths. We refuse invented prices, rankings and medical claims.
Keystatic holds the notes, papers and insights so editors can correct an ID without redeploying a fiction. Netlify hosts the Next.js 15 application. The visual rhythm — photo hero, facts, long narrative, tables, gateways, AIO-first FAQ — follows the Capes Chance Lighthouse depth bar without copying that site’s colours.
Who it is for
Practitioners writing ESD reports for Australian planning desks. Students who have been told to “cite EDG” and need a legitimate public page. Specifiers who want the question under a material board. It is not a substitute for a building surveyor, a fire engineer, or the current NCC PDF on your project server.
